1 Day in Paris (Paris in a Day Tour with Walks)

If you are pushed for time and/or it’s your first visit in the city and you want to experience an introduction to the highlights of Paris with the planning done for you why not consider joining the “Paris in a Day Tour” with Walks?

Although we have visited Paris on many occasions we jumped at the opportunity to join this 1 Day in Paris Walks tour during our 3 day trip to the French capital from London. This was the perfect chance to try out the tour for our UK Travel Planning Facebook group as we know a trip to Paris on the Eurostar is often on our community’s itineraries.

What are the advantages of taking the “Paris in a Day” tour with Walks?

  • Skip-the-line access at all the busiest attractions

The only way to be able to see all of these top sights in a day is to skip the line and that is exactly what you do on this tour. No waiting in long queues (have you seen the lines outside the Louvre in summer?)

  • The benefit of learning from an expert local guide

We had a wonderful time with our Parisien guide Hugo. He was great fun but also incredibly knowledgable and shared lots of information about the history of the areas, landmarks and attractions we visited.

  • Not having to independently find your way between places

If you are not familiar with the Paris Metro you may find it a little daunting to navigate. During the tour Hugo escorted the group on and off the Metro. He also reminded some group members of the possibility of pickpockets so they were able their valuables safe. (Note – do not keep your mobile phone in your back pocket!)

  • Meeting fellow travellers enjoying their Paris vacation

We met some fantastic people in our group and it was lovely to meet and chat to fellow travellers from around the world.

  • Tickets are provided so you don’t have to book these independently

Entry tickets are included in the tour price so you don’t have to worry about purchasing multiple tickets (or not getting a ticket for example to the Eiffel Tower)

1 Day in Paris Tour with Walks – Photo Diary

Stop 1 – Montmartre

The first part of the day is spent in Montmartre.

We met our tour leader Huge and the other members of our tour group in Montmartre at 9:00 am and then caught the funicular to the top to see the Sacré Coeur Basilica and enjoy stunning views of Paris.

We spent about an hour exploring this beautiful neighbourhood and had the opportunity to go inside the Sacré Coeur Basilica.

Stop 2 –  Ile de la Cité & the historic Latin Quarter

Next we took the metro (with Hugo’s guidance) to the Ile de la Cité. We saw the ongoing restoration of the fire damaged Notre Dame before crossing the river for a stroll through the Latin Quarter.

Stop 3 – The Louvre

After a stroll along the Seine we arrived at the Louvre where we had a lunch break of around an hour. As our hotel was opposite the Louvre we were able to pop back and put up our feet for half an hour which was a welcome rest!

At the designated time the group met back up and we headed into the Louvre. If you want to spend more time exploring the treasures of the Louvre we recommend going again but we did see the main highlights – the Mona Lisa, the the Venus de Milo and the Winged Victory of Samothrace!

Stop 4 – Trocadero Plaza and the Eiffel Tower

Next we hopped back on the Metro to the Trocadero Plaza for stunning views of the Eiffel Tower before skipping the lines and heading up the tower itself.

As this was the end of the guided tour Hugo gave us our Seine cruise tickets and bade us all “au revoir”

We spent an hour or so enjoying the views of Paris before descending for the last stop of the day – the cruise along the Seine.

Stop 5 – River cruise along the Seine

By this point we were pretty exhausted. The tour lasts 9 hours so be prepared! We thoroughly enjoyed sitting back and enjoying the views of Paris from the Seine and it was the perfect ending to what was a fantastic day!

Is the Paris in a Day tour worth it?

We thoroughly enjoyed the tour with Walks. It was a great way to see the major sights in Paris in …yep…..one day!

It is a great introduction to the city for anyone visiting for the first time and even though we have visited Paris many times we enjoyed listening to Hugo as he shared his stories about living in Paris.

It was great fun meeting the other members of the group too and we highly recommend considering booking this tour if you are short of time and want to pack in as much of the cities highlights as possible.

Just wear comfy shoes – there is a LOT of walking on this tour!

Our opinions are a true reflection of our experience as guests of Walks. Thanks to Walks for inviting us on their Paris in A Day Tour.
